First Data from South Africa: Vineyards Respond to a Changing Climate

News and Events,

Wine is more than an agricultural product

It is a sensory language shaped by soil, climate, tradition and culture. As part of its ongoing research into consumer preferences and evolving tasting habits, the WINES project is hosting a dedicated tasting seminar designed to bring this science to life for researchers, industry professionals and wine enthusiasts alike.

On 14 October 2026, at 5:00 PM (CET), the seminar will take place at the Wine Research Hall, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany, led by Lorem Ipsum. The session offers a guided exploration of how sensory perception is studied and measured: from identifying aromatic and flavour descriptors to understanding how cultural background and expertise shape the way people evaluate a wine, drawing on methods used within the project’s research on sensory profiling and consumer evaluation across different countries.

Beyond the tasting itself, the session will open a conversation on where the wine sector is heading — including the growing interest in low- and non-alcohol alternatives, and how producers and researchers are working together to understand what today’s consumers are really looking for.
