What this project is about
The global wine industry is under pressure: shifting trade patterns, market shocks and changing consumer habits have driven wine production and consumption to their lowest levels in over 60 years. WINES investigates how sustainable and resilient wine ecosystems can be built — in Europe and worldwide — through climate adaptation, market innovation, diversification strategies such as wine tourism, and greater social inclusion.

How the project is organised
Over 48 months, WINES pursues its research through 5 scientific Work Packages, Researchers move between partner institutions through staff exchanges (secondments), working side by side to produce joint scientific outputs, industry reports and policy recommendations.
The WINES Network
WINES brings together two wine worlds that rarely speak to one another: Europe’s centuries-old traditions and the drive for innovation from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and South Africa. A network of 19 academic institutions and 21 industry partners, forming a community of over 100 people across 11 countries.
